Crimson-bellied Conures

Pyrrhura perlata

Size: 24cm (9.3 inches) long

Colourization Adult: Both adults partly green in colour; brown breast with pale off-white and dark brown barring; yellow/green cheeks, turning to blue on lower cheeks; blue collar around hindneck which varies with each bird; red bend of wing, lesser underwing coverts and abdomen; blue thighs to tail coverts; brown/red tail. Bill brown/grey. Eye ring bare and white. Eye dark brown.

Colourization Juvenile: Green lower breast and abdomen. Bill horn in colour with pale grey at base.

Origin: Brazil and into part of Bolivia

Personality: All conures are cuddly, when they are with their favorite people. Crimson-bellieds are very smart, active, and social. Ours have all preferred to sit on our heads.

Talking ability: Some learn to say a few words.

Cage requirements: minimum 18 x 18 x 22 high. A large cockatiel cage works well. Conures enjoy sleeping in a nest box, or just escaping for a little privacy.

Food requirements: As with all parrots, they should be fed a well rounded diet. Ours eat a good quality seed/ pelleted diet, supplemented with whatever fruits and veggies they will eat.
